Percutaneous nephrolithotripsy in treatment of residual calyceal stones

Abstract
Residual calyceal stones are a significant clinical problem in patients with urolithiasis, as their presence increases the risk of complications, including apparent recurrences, secondary urinary tract infections, and migration of stones or fragments with subsequent obstruction. This review summarises current evidence on the use of percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL) for the management of residual calyceal stones, analysing indications for intervention, technical considerations, procedural effectiveness, and the spectrum and frequency of potential complications. The available data show that, when performed with a precise surgical approach, PCNL remains a reliable, effective, and safe treatment option for this category of patients.
